Excited to see what sprouts! When it grows to about 10% flowering, I will push it all over, cover with mulch and then some compost. There is something so satisfying about gently digging out a clump of turmeric with such care that only a piece or two breaks off in the process. When I was cleaning the dirt out from around the rhizomes I found at least six big fat worms nestled in there! A sure sign of happy and healthy soil. My favourite way to use this fresh turmeric is to make a delicious hot drink with ginger, lemon, black pepper and honey! Here is the recipe: -1 tablespoon freshly grated turmeric-1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger-the juice of 1 whole lemon-pinch of cracked black pepper-honey to taste (optional)-3 cups of waterPut all the above ingredients into a small saucepan on medium-high heat. Stirring occasionally, bring to a simmer. As soon as it is simmering, turn off the heat and strain to remove pulp and large pieces of black pepper. Enjoy! Extra can be kept in the fridge for 2-3 days. #eatwhatyougrow #organicgardening #food

Favourite Holiday Foods

https://online.me/view-post/favourite-holiday-foods

https://online.me/view-post/favourite-holiday-foods

After thoroughly indulging this past holiday season, I find myself already day dreaming about the goodies to come next year!My partner's mum always makes the most delicious food, especially for the holidays. Over the past couple of years, I have had the honour of rolling up my sleeves and helping her out in the kitchen. It's been great learning new recipes and sharing one or two of my own with her.She makes and bakes her heart out including some amazing shortbread cookies (simple yet delicious), pan forte, many different types of cakes, slices, and these amazing cookies that are a combination of a fancy gingerbread like dough that also have jam thumbprints in them and even have dark chocolate on one side (cannot remember the name at the moment). Then for the savoury side of things, her turkeys (yes plural, she has a family of 19 to feed when everyone is home for the holidays) are perfection, gravy and bread sauce divine, orange, ginger sweet potato dish to die for, honey steamed carrots, green salad, and my personal favourite, her homemade stuffing. I got to make the stuffing with her this year, and I am so grateful! My favourite part is that it is full of herbs that we were able to pick right out of our garden. It has huge handfuls of thyme, marjoram and parsley, mixed with shredded carrots, shredded parsnips, diced onion, eggs and of course some bread. She learned this recipe from her mother, who learnt it from her mother, and it's really lovely that she is passing on the tradition to me.So I am wondering, what are some of your favourite holiday foods? They can be homemade, or store bought, but I want to know what really makes you think of the holidays and brings a smile to your heart and belly 😋#favouriteholidayfoods #food #traditions #learnsomethingnew... Read more

Interstellar facts

https://online.me/view-post/interstellar-facts

https://online.me/view-post/interstellar-facts

1. The method of space travel in this film was based on physicist Kip Thorne’s works, which were also the basis for the method of space travel in Carl Sagan’s novel “Contact”, and the resulting film adaptation, Contact (1997). Matthew McConaughey stars in both films.2. Early in pre-production, Dr. Kip Thorne laid down two guidelines to strictly follow: nothing would violate established physical laws, and that all the wild speculations would spring from science and not from the creative mind of a screenwriter. Christopher Nolan accepted these terms as long as they did not get in the way of the making of the movie. That did not prevent clashes, though; at one point Thorne spent two weeks talking Nolan out of an idea about travelling faster than light.3. To create the wormhole and black hole, Dr. Kip Thorne collaborated with VFX supervisor Paul J. Franklin and his team at Double Negative. Thorne provided pages of deeply sourced theoretical equations to the team, who then created new CGI software programs based on these equations to create accurate computer simulations of these phenomena. Some individual frames took up to 100 hours to render, and ultimately the whole CGI program reached to 800 terabytes of data. The resulting VFX provided Thorne with new insight into the effects of gravitational lensing and accretion disks surrounding black holes, and led to him writing two scientific papers: one for the astrophysics community and one for the computer graphics community.4. For a cornfield scene, Christopher Nolan sought to grow 500 acres of corn, which he learned was feasible from his producing of Man of Steel (2013). The corn was then sold and he actually made a profit.5. With the nights drawing in across the Northern Hemisphere, stunning sunsets will act as magical backdrops to your evening sessions.Though September may have you heading south in search of heat, there are some surprising options on this list if you don’t mind less than ideal weather. After all, who cares about the rain if you are already wet anyway? Here are our top picks for an autumn surf getaway.Hossegor, FranceUnsplashHossegor on a more than 200km long stretch of sand.UnsplashThis seaside town roughly 30 km north of Biarritz is a renowned surf destination. Its streets are filled with surf shops on every corner and campervans laden with boards. At the heart of the town is La Graviere, one of the world’s top-rated beach breaks - where waves are created by a shallow sandy shoreline.Although summer sees smaller peaks with everyone paddling out for some fun, as the seasons change the swells increase and it becomes a place for more serious sportspeople. If you come in autumn, expect bigger waves and some of the best barrels you’ll ever experience. This is just part of the region’s 225km stretch of golden sand, however, with more than enough space for surfers of all abilities.
